Welcome
Welcome Back
The Zionist Press is back after a hiatus due to holidays and travel. This issue returns with more original content, which seems to be well received by subscribers. I plan on sending out a survey soon to try to better understand how people feel about the newsletter and what reader preferences are. Aside from the survey, I would very much appreciate any feedback you may have.
Also, original articles resume next week! If you are interested in writing for The Zionist Press, please get in touch!

Elie Wiesel: Conscience of humanity
Elie Wiesel, widely considered the "face" of the Holocaust, died on July 2. In this article, the great Irwin Cotler discusses the life and importance of Wiesel. Many credit Wiesel with single-handedly bringing the horrors of the Holocaust to light post-WWII.
I had the great fortune of seeing Elie Wiesel speak several years ago. For me, his death is a sobering reminder that we are nearing a time of having no living Holocaust survivors to tell their tales. Personally, I find it hard to imagine a world without Holocaust survivors.
Palestinian Authority Pays Terrorists and Their Families $140 Million a Year
Recent testimony by MEMRI confirms that the Palestinian Authority pays salaries to terrorists and their families. While this practice has been known for some time, the recent testimony sheds light on the extent of the funds paid. According to recent analysis, the PA spends $140 Million a year (about 10% of its budget) on payments to terrorists and their families.
Just last week, Palestinian terrorist Mohammed Tarayra entered a Jewish home and stabbed to death Hallel Yaffa Ariel, a 13-year old Israeli girl asleep in her bed. Tarayra was shot and killed, but was declared a "martyr" by the PA, thus entitling his family to a handsome salary.
This practice has been going on for decades. Fortunately, though, Israel and others are finally taking action. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered that any money paid by the PA to terrorists or their families be deducted and withheld from tax revenues collected on the PA's behalf by Israel. Reports suggest that, similarly, the US will begin withholding from foreign aid to the PA amounts paid out to terrorists of their family.

PA and Fatah quick to honor murderer who killed 13-year-old girl in her sleep
"My son is a hero. He made me proud. My son died as a Martyr defending Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa "
Palestinian Media Watch reports that these were the proud words of the mother of the terrorist who stabbed a 13-year old girl to death in Israel last week. This mother's words perfectly illustrate the hate that has been woven into Palestinian society.
Moral people cannot support the Palestinians
In his usual clear, straight-talk style, Dennis Prager lays out reasons why "[T]here is something wrong with the moral compass of anyone who sides with the Palestinians in their conflict with Israel."
Palestinian describes aiding settler family hit by shooting attack
It is important to remember that not every Palestinian shares the hatred for Jews and Israelis that permeates Palestinian society. In the same week that a 13-year old Israeli girl was stabbed to death in her bed, Miki Mark, a father of 10, died when his car was shot up while he drove down the highway. The first to come to the family's aid was a Palestinian couple. Mark's daughter noted, "God sent an Arab to help us.β

UNRWA β Who asked you?
Israeli MP writes a stinging critique of the United Nations. He writes, " The UN has been taken hostage. Itβs time to rescue it." I am the first to profess that I have complete disdain for the United Nations. It has made a mockery of the ideals on which the UN was founded and completely subverts the mission of the UN. From the General Assembly to any of the member bodies, including the odious UNWRA, the UN has become the single greatest avenue for Israel hatred. What makes this article so significant is that it is coming from a prominent Israeli politician. Let's hope this is the beginning of more direct action by the Israeli government against the UN.
This is a good time to remind readers of the amazing work that Hillel Neuer at http://www.unwatch.org/en/ does to keep tabs on the UN bias. Please support UN Watch today.

BDS Fail: Netanyahu's Tour of Africa Yields Business Deals
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu just completed a 5-day tour of Africa, meeting with the leaders of several African nations. Not only has the trip led to warmed relations between Israel and Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia, but it also yielded several business deals and economic compacts that will benefit all involved.
This recent trip further shows that Israel is anything but isolated in the world these days. Take that, BDS scum!

More Disgusting Anti-Semitism From NYU Students for Justice in Palestine
The US is experiencing much racial tension as the recent police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, two black males, has reignited conversations of police brutality toward black citizens.
Much has been written about the current controversy, from analyzing its causes and roots to theorizing solutions. Perhaps the most ridiculous opinion on the current situation comes from the NYU chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine. Even exceeding their usual level of filth, the NYU chapter of SJP recently tweeted accusations that the targeting of black citizens by US police is the fault of none other than Israel. The tweet then goes on to compare the situation in the US to the "genocide" of Palestinians who, despite such "genocide" have grown exponentially in numbers.

Entebbe's seriously wounded soldier meets with doctor who saved his life
Israel recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the famous "Raid on Entebbe," perhaps the most daring rescue in history. Members of the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hijacked a French airliner and diverted it to the airport in Entebbe, Uganda, were then dictator Idi Amin gave them refuge while pretending to negotiate an end to the situation. All non-Jewish passengers were allowed to leave and only Jews were held captive. Incredibly, commandos from the Israeli Defense Force flew a secret mission to Uganda, complete with fake presidential limos posing as Amin's motorcade, and stormed the Entebbe airport. The IDF was able to save 102 hostages (3 died) and the only Israeli casualty was the leader of operation, Yonatan Netanyahu, who was Benjamin Netanyahu's brother.
This article focuses on Surin Hershko, an IDF soldier who was wounded in the raid, and the 40 year relationship he formed with the IDF doctor who saved his life. They recall the operation that brought them together with great detail.
I highly suggest that you read this account. For a more vivid depiction of the operation, see the 1976 movie Raid on Entebbe staring Peter Finch, Charles Bronson, and James Woods
